Chiefs Come Out on Top 29-19 vs. Broncos in Week 8

The Kansas City Chiefs played another primetime game on Thursday night, this time against division rivals, the Denver Broncos.  The Chiefs’ defense once again came up with big plays as the Chiefs won 29-19, widening their lead on the AFC West pack.  Marcus Peters had an interception and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.  The Chiefs had some issues on the ground, but Travis Kelce had another big game.  Also, Harrison Butker was a perfect five for five on his field goal attempts that kept the Chiefs in the lead.  After the big division win, the Chiefs look ahead towards week 9 and a matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Denver Broncos Report Card

It was a game full of positives and negatives for the Kansas City Chiefs.  The biggest bright spot for the Chiefs was their pass defense led by CB Marcus Peters.  He got his team-leading third interception, and also stripped Jamaal Charles for a fumble return touchdown in the opening minutes.  Also, the Chiefs defense finally looked able to get after the quarterback.  Trevor Siemian had a rough night throwing the football.  However, it wasn’t all positives, Kareem Hunt once again struggled to get going.  The Chiefs run game has been lackluster of the past few weeks after a blistering start to the season.  And even though the defense had some big plays, they once again looked unable to stop the run game.  The Chiefs will need to work on a few things before heading to Dallas for a week 9 matchup with the Cowboys.

Chiefs Secondary Sporting a Few New Faces in Matchup with Broncos

After last week’s game with the Raiders in which the Chiefs game up over 400 yards through the air, the secondary needed a few changes.  Those changes came this week in Steven Nelson and Kenneth Acker.  Nelson was making his first start of the season after spending the first portion on the I.R.  Acker was filling in for Terrance Mitchell at cornerback opposite Marcus Peters.  Head Coach Andy Reid stated that Mitchell just needed a breather after a little inconsistency as of late.  The Chiefs will look to continue improving in the secondary and remain atop the AFC West.

Updated AFC West Standings After Week 8

After coming out on top against a struggling Denver Broncos team, the Kansas City Chiefs remain on top of the AFC West standings.  With a 29-19 win, the Chiefs move to 6-2 on the season.  The Broncos take the loss and move to 3-4.  Kansas City also benefited from both the Chargers and Raiders both losing their games as well.  The Chargers lost a close game to the New England Patriots and the Raiders lost badly to the Buffalo Bills.  The Chiefs draw a good Dallas Cowboys team in week 9 and will look to stay in first place in the AFC West.

Justin Houston has Impressive Game Against the Broncos

Justin Houston had six tackles and two sacks in week 8 against the Denver Broncos.  It was a game where Chiefs fans saw Houston do what he does best.  But up to this point in the season, Houston skill has been doubted and his stats have seem have dipped in the wrong direction a bit.  But Justin Houston is still a fantastic player.  He contributes so much more to the Chiefs defense that just stats, and sometimes that’s all he is judged on.  Even though he may have had a few rough games so far this season, he definitely still has what it takes to be the dangerous pass rusher he has always been.
