Chiefs Training Camp Report – August 8th

The Chiefs took the field for the last training camp practice before their preseason game on Friday. The Chiefs didn’t get any good news on the injury front. Eric Berry, Travis Kelce, and Bennie Logan remained out. Cairo Santos missed practice on Tuesday and it was later announced that Kansas City had signed Sam Ficken from Penn State to take care of the kicking duties on Friday.

Tanoh Kpassagnon also missed practice on Tuesday with shin splints. De’Vante Bausby also remained out with an ankle injury.

If this was week one people should worry about the guys not practicing; before the first preseason it isn’t as big a deal. Berry and Kelce should be back in plenty of time for the regular season you just have to hope these aren’t injuries they will deal with all season. Chris Jones should also be back from the PUP list and all three of those players will make a big difference for the Chiefs against the Patriots.

Chris Jones, Parker Ehinger, Dadi Nicolas, and Tamba Hali all remain on the PUP list for the Chiefs.

Tyreek Hill had another big day in training camp with deep catches from both Alex Smith and Tyler Bray. Hill is continuing to make plays and looks to have a fantastic season. CJ Spiller is also continuing to make plays and even got some second string snaps at running back.

If he is able to make plays in the games that start Friday he will make it much harder for Charcandrick West to make the roster. Seantavius Jones, Marcus Kemp, and Ross Travis all made a couple of catches to stick out. Jones is starting to get repetitions with Smith and that should lead to opportunities come Friday night.

On defense Eric Murray continues to get first string snaps in place of injured Eric Berry. Murray has had a great training camp and continues to make strides. He is going to get more time in the defense this season and Ryan will have an article looking at him in more depth tomorrow. Ukeme Eligwe is also making plays at camp. Unfortunately Eligwe’s plays are coming at the expense of Mahomes at this point. Eligwe had an interception on Monday and dropped another one in his hands on Tuesday both from Mahomes.

After practice on Tuesday Andy Reid spoke to the media. He stated that everyone gets an opportunity to play in the first game. He also talked about how the snaps will be split among the quarterbacks. Smith will get the first quarter. Bray will get the second quarter. Mahomes will get the third quarter and Staave will get the fourth.
