The quarterbacks struggled on Monday but returned on Tuesday and played much better. Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes, and Tyler Bray all showed much better accuracy. During 11 on 11 drills Alex Smith was the only QB to lead the Chiefs to the end zone. Smith scrambled out of the pocket and was able to find Chris Conley for the touchdown. Mahomes moved the Chiefs down the field but couldn’t reach the end zone. His fourth down pass was knocked away from De’Anthony Thomas. Later in practice Mahomes threw another fantastic deep ball this time to Tyreek Hill between multiple defenders. While he made that play he later threw another short interception into the middle of the field, a place that he continues to struggle seeing the coverage.
Second year Chiefs corner DJ White continues fighting even when he’s beat, punching a ball out of the hands of Albert Wilson.
Other notes from Chiefs training camp. Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson returned to practice on Tuesday after being given the day off on Monday. Chris Jones remains a limited participant recovering from his knee surgery. Zach Fulton continues to move all over the Chiefs line and lined up at right guard for the Chiefs on Tuesday. This means that he has now practiced at every position on the offensive line. Kansas City is still dealing with a lot of injuries. Eric Berry, Jacoby Glenn, Terrance Mitchell, Cairo Santos, Ashton Lampkin, Steven Nelson, and J.R. Nelson all missed practice on Tuesday.
The Chiefs took to the field on Tuesday for their next to last practice in Saint Joseph. After practice Clark Hunt spoke to the media and had some very interesting things to say. Hunt spoke glowingly of Patrick Mahomes and what he has seen from him so far at training camp. Hunt also talked about training camp returning to St. Joseph. He stated that he likes having camp in St. Joe and that if it’s up to him they will return.
