The Kansas City Chiefs announced some bad news on Sunday. Running back Spencer Ware is expected to miss the season with a torn PCL and an at least strained MCL. Ware wants to get a second opinion and will get that in the coming days. With Ware out, Kareem Hunt will be thrust into the starting role. Coach Andy Reid also announced on Sunday that CJ Spiller will be on the roster this season. Whether or not this was going to be the case with or without Ware we will likely never known. Spiller brings a big change of pace with his speed at running back.

The Chiefs running game will miss the power back feature that Ware definitely brought. There are ways around not having the power back but with the Chiefs struggling in the short yardage and goal line package it will be hard to improve. Kansas City may have to rely on using more lineman or using Anthony Sherman as the running back in goal line situations. Spencer Ware is not a back that will be easily replaced but the Chiefs have to find a way to move on. Luckily for them they do have depth at running back.

Several Chiefs players returned to practice on Sunday after missing the game on Friday night and there were a couple of additions to missing practice as well.

The Chiefs got multiple players back to practice today as well. Justin Houston and Tanoh Kpassangon were back from the flu. Eric Berry and Terrance Mitchell returned from their injuries to practice as well. Bennie Logan (knee), Steven Nelson (groin), and Ron Parker (ankle) all didn’t practice on Sunday. Coach Reid said that all injuries are not considered serious and they should be fine moving forward. Also announced on Sunday is that Patrick Mahomes will start his first game against the Tennessee Titans. It is expected that the starters will not play and this will be a great last opportunity for all the young players.
