Kansas City had their last practice of the preseason on Tuesday. New Chiefs linebacker Reggie Ragland was not in attendance as he had not made it to the facility yet after the trade was completed yesterday. Coach Reid stated during his press conference that Ragland is a thumper but that’s not all he is. “It is good to be a thumper, but I would tell you that he could probably handle three down. That was what he was coming out.” Reggie is a player they are going to have to be patient with as he is coming off of injury and he has to learn the defense.
Thursday nights game against the Tennessee Titans will be a true test for several players on the Chiefs.
A couple of other linebackers had practice off as well on Tuesday. Both Derrick Johnson and Justin Houston didn’t practice on Tuesday. Coach Reid was quick to point out they aren’t injured just getting a day of rest. Both Johnson and Houston are expected to not play on Thursday night. The rest of the starters are also expected to not play against the Titans. With the new cut rules this season the Chiefs will be able to rest all of the starters so they don’t have to worry about injuries in the fourth game.
With the starters resting the rest of the Chiefs team will be in an all out competition for any remaining roster spots. There aren’t many spots open at this point. With the Ragland trade more than likely the linebackers are set at five. Corners and safeties could keep five as well but the tenth position is up in the air. On offense the Chiefs appear to be much more set in their roster. Wide receiver is the position that could surprise some. It’s possible that Demarcus Robinson doesn’t make this team after he’s dropped off throughout the preseason games. He’s been running with the third team for the past two games after looking great in OTA’s.
